In 1972, Cia Transamérica de Hotéis SP was founded for the main purpose of creating and developing hotel industry activities and implementing the necessary infrastructure to strengthen tourism in Brazil.
The city of São Paulo was chosen to host its 1st enterprise. It was the Hotel Transamérica de São Paulo, inaugurated in 1985 and located on Av. das Nações Unidas, an industrial region of the Santo Amaro district. At the time it was opened, it generated a great deal of discussion since international five star hotels were restricted to the downtown – Avenida Paulista areas, but the Organization, in a pioneering effort, believed in the promising prospects of the region, which presented large tracts of land needed for the expansion of the city and ease of access.
It was inaugurated with 200 rooms and 10 convention rooms (North tower). The best testament to the success of the enterprise was that the Hotel had doubled in size by 1993, after eight years in operation, growing to 396 rooms (385 rooms and 11 suites, one of which is designated the Presidential Suite). All are provided with air conditioning, telephone with direct domestic and overseas dialing, cable TV, safe and computer terminal outlet.
It also has the largest convention center coupled with a hotel in São Paulo. There are 23 modular convention rooms that can hold up to 3,500 people and also has an auditorium seating 170 places.
There are also parking spaces for 1000 cars and a heliport.
At the gastronomic center, there are two restaurants, the Anturius buffet and Verbena featuring contemporary cuisine, not to mention the Piano Bar with its panoramic vista of the golf course.
The hotel's sports and recreational complex includes 15,000-sq mts of Green area, lighted tennis courts, a three-hole mini golf course, jogging track and heated swimming pool. The Health Club has dry sauna and steam saunas, workout and massage rooms, circular and Scottish showers.
On June 28, 1996, the hotel earned the Total Quality certification complying with ISO standard 9002, making it the first hotel in the Americas and one of the few in the world to be certified for its ISO quality system certification. This quality process and certification have resulted in several benefits: documented work processes (simplifying continued improvements of them, also serving as a base for new employees that are starting work in one of the hotel areas, etc.);Creation of quality indicators (serving and measurements for the work process, identifying failures committed to take corrective and preventive actions) and based on the customers themselves (creation of structured survey in the form of a questionnaire to learn about the degree of customer satisfaction). Currently the Hotel Transamérica is certified under ISO standard 9001/2008.
